Copyright permission for Library of Congress created materials

How do we request permission to use resources created by Library of Congress staff?

Materials created by employees of the federal government or people under contract to the federal government are considered to be in the public domain. All that we ask is that you properly cite them when using them in your program.

We recommend those who need to cite resources from the Teachers Page use the following citation format found at https://www.loc.gov/programs/teachers/getting-started-with-primary-sources/citing/chicago/#special for Chicago style and https://www.loc.gov/programs/teachers/getting-started-with-primary-sources/citing/mla/#special for MLA.
