I have a newspaper from September 11. Can I donate it to the Library of Congress collections?

The Library of Congress is developing a special collection of foreign and domestic newspapers reporting on the events of September 11, 2001. Perhaps you also recognized the importance of your local 9/11 newspaper, and set aside an issue for the future? If so, we invite you to help us build the nation's collection of 9/11 newspapers at the Library of Congress. Donations are typically gladly accepted if they do not duplicate the Library's current holdings.

Because of many generous donations, the collection has grown to thousands of issues. We are now focusing collecting efforts on those issues that contain original reporting (for example: articles offering local perspectives and firsthand interviews and photography). Issues must be in good condition (no torn or brittle pages, no water damage). We generally ask the donor to cover the cost of shipping items to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

Please contact us through Ask a Librarian if you are interested in donating issues to the collection.
