How can I see comics?
One of the most exciting research collections available at the Library is our extensive collection of comic books. This collection is an invaluable research resource, and artists and scholars from around the world have come to consult what is one of the largest collections of comics in the world. We also have a limited number of browseable comic books right in the Newspaper & Current Periodical Reading Room. In addition to the comic books, we have a great reference collection of books covering all aspects of comics—characters, artists, series, etc. The Library also has growing collections of Webcomics and Comics Literature and Criticism websites that are accessible to you anywhere.
The majority of the comic book collection is cataloged in the Library’s online catalog, with summary holding records for most titles owned. The Library also has a collection of comic book fiche listed here. Completing a Comic Book Request form is required for use of the collection, so feel free to fill it out in advance of your visit.
If you are planning to visit us to access our comic book collection, let us know in advance so we can check our holdings and make sure we are ready for you!
