How do I request a research appointment in the Law Library Reading Room?
The Library of Congress is gradually reopening its doors with enhanced procedures and requirements that prioritize the health and safety of Library employees and users.
Only researchers with confirmed appointments are permitted entry into the Law Library Reading Room during the current reopening phase. Researchers requiring resources in the law collections may schedule research appointments in the Law Library Reading Room. Appointments are available in 3-hour blocks (9:30 am – 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Monday-Saturday). Appointments must be scheduled at least one day in advance.
To speak with a legal reference librarian about scheduling an appointment, call 202-707-5079 during normal business hours (8:30 am - 5:00 pm). The appointment setup process can take 10-20 minutes. We are currently operating with reduced staffing levels; if you reach our voicemail during normal business hours, please leave a message with your name and phone number, and a librarian will return your call.
