I'm researching a federal regulation. Where do I start?
Federal regulations are rules created by agencies, boards, or commissions that carry the force of law. The Law Library of Congress has published an online research guide with information on where to find federal rules and instructions for tracing the origins and history of federal rules. Researchers can visit How to Trace Federal Regulations: A Beginner's Guide to start their research.
Established by Congress in 1832, the Law Library has a collection of over 2.65 million volumes spanning the ages and covering virtually every jurisdiction in the world.
We cannot provide legal advice, interpretation, or analysis which could be interpreted as the practice of law; extensive bibliographies or legislative histories; or answers for student homework assignments.
