How do I submit an interlibrary loan request?

Before you submit your request, please check the online catalog to see if the Library owns the item you want at: catalog.loc.gov, or contact Ask a Librarian.

There are two ways to submit an interlibrary loan request:

  1. OCLC members may submit requests via Worldshare.
  2. If your library is not a member of OCLC, you may submit a request through our website. To do so, please register as a Lending Webborrower by submitting this form: First Time Registration for ILL. Your application will be reviewed, and an email response sent to you with a user ID and password, which you may use to submit an interlibrary loan borrowing request.

Please note: Individuals are not able to borrow directly from the Library of Congress. You should contact your local public or academic library to submit a request on your behalf.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us directly at 202-707-5444 or email us at ILL@loc.gov or IFLALoan@loc.gov (international).
