How do I donate a book?

Thank you for considering donating materials to the Library! Your thoughtful interest to develop the Library of Congress collections helps ensure our collections remain strong.

The Library welcomes inquiries about donations of library materials but cannot accept everything. Prospective donors should NOT send the item(s) to the Library, but should instead submit a donation offer identifying the item(s) to be donated using our Donations/Gifts of Library Materials Form.

Note that many items published may already be in the Library of Congress collections, including the many U.S. titles acquired through copyright deposit. Before completing the form, please search the Library of Congress Online Catalog to check whether or not your item is already part of the Library's collection.

If you do not find your item in the collection, and are interested in donating it to the Library, please fill out the Donations form below. The information will assist the appropriate Library professionals in assessing the offer.

Please note: the Library of Congress cannot make an estimation or appraisal regarding the monetary value of the gift.

Charitable monetary gifts are also appreciated and can be made on our Support the Library of Congress page.
